Valerie's Weight Loss Success
I've struggled with weight most my life - I was not obese but always overweight and not happy with my appearance. As a kid, I was skinny but started gaining weight as a teen. I've lost and gained weight on and off ever since. Many years ago, I joined Weight Watchers, actually reached my goal and became a life member. Then I was derailed by an injury and started gaining again. Unable to lose, I tried Weight Watchers again, but did not like their point system. After 50, I gave up, figuring I would have to accept that I was getting older and would need to learn to be happy as an overweight middle-aged woman.
Last year, I had a bad case of bronchitis, couldn't seem to get my energy back and really began to gain weight. I hadn't had a physical in years and went to see Dr. Ulmer, weighing in at 174 pounds with a blood pressure of 160/110 in November of 2009. At 5 ft. 4 in. tall my BMI was 30, which is considered obese and one month later my blood pressure was still up, and my EKG showed some possible heart problems. Dr. Ulmer put me on medication and sent me to a cardiologist. I was frightened and decided I needed to act fast. Dr. Ulmer's LiveLyte Weight Management program was there at the right time. I signed up and I'm so glad I did.
I started the program in early January 2010 at 167 pounds (down because I got a treadmill in November). Four and one half months later, I've lost 45 pounds! And I've been maintaining my weight at 128 pounds for the last couple months. I've learned a great deal about why I eat when I'm not hungry (and other bad habits), the right and wrong foods to eat, to drink plenty of water, and to exercise regularly. I've learned new good habits to replace my old bad ones. I feel better, have lots of energy, my knees and feet do not hurt anymore, my blood pressure is normal, I'm off all the medications, my cardiac workup was good and even my eyesight got better. What is most helpful is the fantastic support of the LiveLyte staff as well as the support of my fellow "food addicts". I am attending the maintenance sessions as I adjust to the new me and strengthen my new habits to ensure this weight loss is a permanent change. I feel so good now, I refuse to go backwards!
